Electrolux fridge freezer not cooling

Repair and disassembly guides for food cooling appliances including refrigerators, freezers and fridge-freezers. Mike Madia. I have this problem our refrigerator is not getting cold like it used to but when you open the door the light and everything works its just not getting cold what should i do.

My Daewoo freezer fridge works for 5 minutes after connected to the wall socket. The condenser coils are usually located under the refrigerator. They dissipate heat as refrigerant passes through them.

As debris builds up on the coils, the refrigerator becomes less efficient, causing the refrigerator to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the proper temperature. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty—if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.

The evaporator fan motor draws air over the evaporator cooling coils and circulates it throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Some refrigerators have more than one evaporator fan motor. On refrigerators with only one evaporator, the evaporator is located in the freezer compartment.

If the evaporator fan is not working, it will not circulate the cold air to the refrigerator compartment. If this occurs, the freezer may still get cold, while the refrigerator will not get cold. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it.

Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor. The condenser fan motor draws air though the condenser coils and over the compressor. To determine if the fan motor is defective, first check the fan blade for obstructions. Next, try turning the fan motor blade by hand.

If the blade does not spin freely, replace the condenser fan motor. If no obstructions are present and the fan blade spins freely, use a multimeter to test the fan motor for continuity. If the condenser fan motor does not have continuity, replace it. Thank you!

The refrigerator automatic defrost system periodically melts frost from the evaporator to improve heat exchange. During defrosting, the compressor stops, the defrost heating element turns on, and frost melts from the evaporator fins.

The condensate drips to a evaporator drip tray below the evaporator and then flows through a defrost drain tube to a drain pan next to the compressor in the machine compartment. The condensate water evaporates from the drain pan before the next defrost cycled. If the defrost process fails, diagnose and repair the problem. A small fan and motor are mounted near the evaporator, helping draw air over the coils and circulate it to the fridge and freezer. Defrost system: In situations where the defrost heater burns out or the defrost thermostat fails, frost can build up on the evaporator coils. As these coils become frosted over, eventually no air will be able to pass through to provide cooling. Damper control: The damper control is an automatic or manually operated door that opens and closes to allow more or less cold air into the refrigerator.

Thermistor: A thermistor is essentially a temperature sensor used in refrigerators and freezers. A failed board will misread the temperature sensors, meaning the fridge will be unable to cool correctly.

Evaporator fan: To determine if your evaporator fan motor is faulty, try turning the fan blade by hand. Additionally, a multimeter can be used to test the motor windings for continuity; if continuity is lacking, a replacement will also be in order.

To temporarily get the fridge up and running, remove the rear panel of the freezer and remove all the built up frost pouring hot water over the coils is best. If things cool down but fail again after a few days, you may have to replace one or more parts of the defrost system. If the vent is removable, try taking it out and manually moving the damper.

Thermistor: Similar to the evaporator fan, the thermistor can be tested with a multimeter. The thermistor resistance should change in conjunction with the temperature of the refrigerator; if the resistance does not change or does not have continuity, the thermistor will need to be replaced.
